> Mitsubishi Electric – Digital transformation in automation solutions boosts productivity and improves OEE

Germany, Hannover – Importance of the Cloud to monitor the statistical production information

Mitsubishi Electric showed, at the Hannover Fair 2017,  automation solutions that address manufacturer requirements to boost productivity, increase flexibility and improve OEE. Demonstrations highlight how users can achieve this Digital transformation through plant-wide integration and transfer of data to the Cloud, with the importance of data defining the digital transformation of businesses. On many application demos, Mitsubishi Electric technologies are combined with those of e-F@ctory Alliance Partners to form advanced, integrated solutions.

The Cloud for industry

Showing how the Cloud is playing an increasingly important role within the digital transformation of industry, the Mitsubishi Electric stand features a high-speed robot application with connectivity to Cloud-based dashboards for in-depth information analysis. The Cloud connectivity enables ongoing data, status and condition monitoring – information that underlines potential for improvements in OEE. Other important asset optimisation processes can also be considered in more depth.

Predictive maintenance with the Mitsubishi Electric Smart Condition Monitoring System

Opportunities for predictive maintenance are evidenced by the Mitsubishi Electric Smart Condition Monitoring (SCM) system, developed with e-F@ctory Alliance partner Schaeffler. The SCM kit provides an integrated approach to monitoring the condition of individual assets. It allows a holistic approach to be taken to monitoring the asset health of the whole plant. Information from multiple assets can be processed within a Mitsubishi Electric PLC to provide detailed diagnostics and analysis, and can be sent to higher-level systems for ongoing trend analysis.

Eliminated the picking errors

Even manual assembly operations can provide valuable information to the higher-level enterprise. Mitsubishi Electric showed a ‘pick-to-light Guided Operation Solution that highlights how picking errors can be eliminated. Further, close integration with the control system means that additional information can be provided to operators to reduce assembly errors, so boosting both quality and productivity. In addition, Mitsubishi Electric experts can discuss how the Guided Operator Solution can be easily integrated with IT systems, for example for the collection of inventory data and monitoring of statistical production information.

The synchronous multi axis motion system

The Mitsubishi Electric booth showed a working synchronous multi-axis motion system, built around an iQ-F PLC with Simple Motion module. The easiest way to add motion control to a PLC-based automation platform, the Simple Motion module provides an intuitive interface for positioning, interpolated moves and synchronous control. Typical applications include packaging and metalworking machines.

At the Hannover Messe 2017 Mitsubishi Electric showed the e-F@ctory concept for delivering Industry 4.0 compatible solutions. Importantly, these solutions are scalable from sensor/actuator level right up to full IT integration and beyond to the Cloud. Visitors can also talk to experts from the Mitsubishi Electric team about how these innovative automation solutions address today’s industry issues and deliver real return on investment.
