Established in 1949 Valdarno S.r.l. is a private shareholding company, headquartered in Mornago, near Varese, leader in hot forging sector. The core business of Valdarno is designing and manufacturing ancillary equipment for hot forging lines. In particular preforming presses, trimming and coining presses, hot and cold billet shears, so as customized systems for special applications.

The main sector is the hot forging of steel parts, destined to specific applications, such as leaf and coil springs, bolts etc. Valdarno’s commercial business is mainly aimed at customers operating on automotive, goods transportation on road and railways, agriculture and earth moving machines, energy and buildings.

From Italy to Europe and America with an international DNA

The main reference markets are domestic, European and North American. Commercial business is supported by a sale department located in Mornago, taking care of Italian, English, French, German, Russian and Czech markets.

Valdarno ensures to their customers not only a constant technical assistance but a strict cooperation for studying special solutions, in compliance with the latest EC Rules.

Experience in making hot forging lines

Since 1949 Valdarno has been making hot forging lines for carbon steel, stainless steel and titanium parts. Picture shows one of last lines, fully automatic, designed for rings until diameter of 1,000 mm.

The robot system helps from the hot shear to the press

These rings made of special steel (i.e. for bearings, for earth moving machines and for aviation) cannot be cold sheared at all. There is a 1,200°C hot shear, a 2,000 kW in line induction oven, automatically fed up with bars, square and round section, until 180 mm, 10 meter long.

Hot slug, after hot shearing, is picked-up by a robot and placed under a high-speed preforming hydraulic press of 1,000 tons.

Second robot for the forging and punghing press

This preformed piece is picked-up by a second robot and moved under a forging and punching press, then it is conveyed inside the ring mill, for final rolling, by robotized loading / unloading.

Once shaped at final diameter ring is picked-up by robot and put under a calibrating press of 600 tons. All above operations are in automatic mode managed.

All final ring sizes are by appropriate laser system checked. A dedicated remote PLC will manage setup of the line, at every ring size change. The Valdarno’s experience allows to work together with main European ring makers.
